Actor Mel Gibson and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva have finally reached a settlement, ending their long-running financial and custody battle.
Los Angeles Superior Court officials said in a statement that the Academy Award winner and his Russian ex-girlfriend had finally reached a settlement, with a hearing to be held on Wednesday to discuss the financial terms.
The issue of custody of the couple’s young daughter will be handled in a closed session.
The news marks the end of a bitter battle which proved to be highly-damaging for Gibson, who was dropped from The Hangover 2 as a result of the ensuing controversy.
During the case recordings of racist and sexist rants by the Braveheart actor were leaked online, while in March Gibson pleaded no contest to a charge of misdemeanour battery following an incident involving Grigorieva.
Gibson has since tried to rebuild his reputation with a starring role in Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, but the film about a depressed man who starts talking to a beaver hand puppet received mixed reviews and proved to be a box-office flop.
